Subdural empyema is a neurosurgical condition, which requires emergency surgical drainage and subsequent medical therapy. In the space between the dura mater and the arachnoid mater, a subdural empyema (or abscess) collects pus. Subdural empyemas affect the cranium in 95 percent of cases; most occur in the frontal lobe, and only 5 percent occur in the spinal neuraxis.
