*This was recorded on the 5th Generation iPod Touch, however, there is no built-in screen recording on this version, and none of the jailbreaking apps work anymore. Do not ask me where to get it.
I have decided to upload this since there is no proper preservation of the first version of Groove Coaster to ever come out. Because this is an old app, this game only works on an older iOS version because it is a 32-bit app. However, this version is no longer available to download because this version shut down its services on 09/30/2017 and this is where TAITO focused more on 2OS at the time (as well as arcade). Let’s talk about what’s in store.
Songs: This is the version with the least amount of songs throughout the series (including DLC) and the way to unlock them is by clearing each song you come across by. There are 6 DLC songs in the game, and because these aren’t available in the app store anymore, I edited the songs in myself to make it available by default. Luckily the hex was easy to understand. Those DLC songs are all after “Music Plot Type Zero”, so it does look out of place, but what can you do with limited access.
Avatars: They are still unlocked by leveling up. It is straightforward. There are 4 DLC Avatars, which are the last four that i showcased. Now this was kinda hard for me to figure out how to add in game because looking at the data, I couldn’t set these to make it default, so what I had to do was make it unlockable by leveling up (will get into that later). I got it to work at least, and while it is unfortunate I had to do it this way, it was the only way.
Items: So these are basically the same ones as future versions, but since those are only accessible through SHOP, I couldn’t add them. This has to be save data based, so I didn’t bother adding them.
Skins: Pretty much the same as future versions but less(?), so nothing to REALLY show off that’s exclusive.
ETC: In gameplay, I do not know if it was a problem with everyone at the time, but the timing was so strict to where sometimes you think you’ve hit it perfectly but ended up getting a GOOD or even a MISS. This doesn’t take away the fact that it was fun, however.
Compared to future versions, there is only 1 level that represents each difficulty stage.
One more thing, but at the end, you may notice that the level is 47, which is supposed to be the MAX, however the actual MAX is 43 and the reason why it is 47 is because of the DLC Avatars. I manually had to add in levels to get those avatars since I could not set them to default.
Overall, a good first version and it was great to look back at this. I may do 2OS, but it’ll be a long video sort of lol
