Please note that savestates were used during this, but only in places where the game gives you a checkpoint anyway.
Now begins Dark Man's fortress, a long gauntlet of 4 stages in a row with no weapon refills in between, so you need to watch your ammo count at all times.
This stage is mostly devoid of gimmicks, mainly putting enemies in your path. Some of them are really far away, but they can still be shot at with special weapons which you're guaranteed to have by this point. There's also some tank enemies, but Water Wave should make them free to deal with, as usual. However, in the second checkpoint, there is a cool mirror section which forces you to look at the bottom of the screen to see where you are at the top, it's a shame that it lasts for so short. After that comes the boss, Dark Man I. He's mostly the same as before, but you can stand on his head this time. He's also much faster than before, so you're incentivized to do this, and maybe use Super Arrow for mobility too instead of just combat.
