STORYLINE:
Palestinian families who fled eastern Khan Younis in the latest wave of exodus in the war-torn Gaza Strip earlier this week, have struggled to find shelters in the overcrowded shelters and open areas in the western parts of the city.
Many have been forced to flee their homes multiple times since Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza nine months ago.
The newly displaced people have stayed in the open under July’s burning sun, without food, water and shelter.
"Death is better than the life we are living. We are humiliated and we suffer to get food, drinking water and firewood," said Asmahan Belal, a woman from Gaza City who had sheltered in eastern Khan Younis until she was forced to flee once again earlier this week.
"You don’t find anything that helps you survive. We are trying to keep life going, but it doesn’t," she added, holding her tears.
"We have been forced to flee from one place to another. We saw people being killed, and our children were dying before our eyes. We can’t do anything," Belal said.
She was one of tens of thousands who were forced to flee their homes and shelters in the eastern parts of Khan Younis, following Monday’s evacuation orders by the Israeli military.
The displaced people headed westward to the city center and further to the overwhelmed Muwasi area that Israel’s military designated as a humanitarian zone.
"These are desert areas that have no means of life. There is no water, no food," Anwar Salman, a displaced Palestinian said..
"We, as a people, are finished. There is no life here. We are not able to continue. We can't live anymore. We want anyone from the officials to tell us where they want us to go. If they want to kill us, let them do it. Let them throw a nuclear bomb and end us," he added.
