Mithun is the most important and essential ingredient of tribal peoples of Arunachal Pradesh, This animal distributed in four north eastern states - Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur and mithun is the pride of the hills peoples.

PURPOSE FOR HUNTING WILD ANIMALS -

Mithun is the pride of tribal peoples of the north eastern region and actually this activities is performed to conserve the mithun from the attacker(wild dogs) who catch and killed the mithun in the forest and eat cattles and eat mother as well. so, the tribal peoples are used to hunt them in the forests and warned them to won't came in the nearly of the mithun where the mithun are lived.

This activity is neither against the wildlife nor destroy wildlife, while performed this activities totally aware of section 48A in the wildlife protection act 1972. And this is completely based on the conserved Mithun from catch and killing by Wild dogs and it's called a Riti ribus(Hipiang kii;ruk) and this activities was performed since forth fathers of the hill tribes area and the Megistrate is also given permission to get performed this activities for the purpose of protect the mithun from killer called wild Dogs like - leopard, wild dogs etc. Besides this activities is locally known as KII:RUK,HIPIANG KII:RUK.

After the complete of carnivals the tribal people's are organised a hunt against the wild dogs who killed the mithun and cattles in the forests and this activities is performed 1(one) time atleast in the year for survival of the mithun and more rise population of the mithun in the tribal areas because mithun is believed to be the symbolic representative of peace and communal harmony.

The Adi tribe observes Solung festival,aran annually to commemorate the birth and arrival of the sacred animals on the areas. Traditionally, the ownerships of mithun is considered to be a sign of prosperity and social status of an individual.
