A blackfoot abalone was filmed twisting in its shell for the last time before being served up in a dinner in Nelson, New Zealand, on March 18.
This video, filmed by Pauline Johnstone, shows a living abalone, also known as pāua in Maori, wriggling in its shell.
Johnstone told Storyful she used the delicacy for her sixth wedding anniversary dinner. She cooked it with Nelson white wine and sauteed it with onion served it over eye fillet steak.
“They taste like very rich creamed mushrooms,” Johnstone said.
New Zealand abalone are extremely valuable.
