What is the difference between Blanc de Blancs and Blanc de Noirs?
Well Blanc de Noir wines are mostly sparkling and produced from white grapes only, as Blanc de Noir stands for White of Wites. On the other hand Blanc de Noir wines are produced exclusively from red grapes, as Blanc de Noir means White from Blacks. Blanc de Noir Champagnes in most cases are produced from Chardonnay grapes, however there are four other grapes permitted in the Champagne region, including: Arbane, Petit Meslier, Pinot Gris and Pinot Blanc. Blanc de Noir Champagnes are produced only from two grapes, which are Pinot Noir and Pinot Menieur.
The best examples of Blanc de Blancs Champagnes are Drappier Pinot Noir Zero Dosage, Taittinger Comtes de Champagne, Charles Heidsieck Blanc de Blancs and Bruno Paillard Blanc de Blancs Grand Cru NV.
The most expensive Blanc de Blancs Champagne is Jacques Selosse Millesime Extra Brut 2008 and the retail price of this Champagne is 3500 us dollars.
The best example of Blanc de Noir Champagne are Bollinger Vielles Vignes Francaises 2008, Egly-Ouriet Blanc de Noir Grand Cru and Krug Clos d'Ambonnay 2006.
