Indian football could be heading toward a major crisis after several Indian Super League clubs reportedly threatened to boycott the competition following the All India Football Federation’s rejection of a club-led governance model.
The crucial meeting between AIFF officials and ISL club representatives ended without an agreement, deepening uncertainty over the future structure of Indian football. Thirteen of the league’s 14 clubs had backed the proposal for a club-driven model, with reigning champions East Bengal FC being the only side not to co-sign the plan.
The discussions, held in Kolkata with officials attending both physically and virtually, failed to produce consensus on how the league should be run going forward. The standoff has now raised fears of a possible boycott and fresh instability in Indian football at a critical stage of the sport’s development in the country.
Fans and stakeholders are now closely watching whether AIFF and ISL clubs can find common ground before the situation escalates further.
