Valjean Wright, M.A., C.V.R., is a Reading, Writing, and Study Skills Specialist with Master’s level degrees in Reading, English, and Vision Rehabilitation. With almost fifty years of combined experience in these fields, she has taught and tutored students in reading and English on the junior high, high school, technical school, and college levels, as well as in adult literacy. She also worked for fifteen years as project coordinator on OSERS, NIDDR, and VA federal research grants, creating and testing instructional materials and standardized tests in reading and writing for special populations, including adults with low vision and students with disabilities. The Syllabication by Vowel Sounds project was inspired by her desire to find an efficient and effective method for improving the word analysis skills that are essential to the literacy of all challenged readers.
