Transforming agrifood systems requires understanding whether healthy diets are affordable and why. Cost and Affordability of a Healthy Diet (CoAHD) indicators provide evidence on where food systems fail, yet remains underused in investment and policy. As they allow to monitor costs of healthy food items across places, and time, CoAHD indicators can guide targeted investments and policies, as shown by Nigeria’s experience and innovative approaches like FAO’s Policy Optimization Tool.
