The Nimitz Carrier Strike Group (CSG) deployed to the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations in late April 2025, replacing the George Washington CSG, which is currently docked in Japan, and the Carl Vinson CSG, which was reassigned from the Indo-Pacific to the Middle East.
As of early May, the Nimitz CSG is operating in strategic waters, including the South China Sea and the Philippine Sea.
Following the conclusion of this deployment, USS Nimitz (CVN 68) is expected to transfer to Naval Station Norfolk in Virginia in preparation for its scheduled decommissioning in 2026.
