“Today, the 3rd of September 2025, I stand in Sunderland – the birthplace of the modern Pentecostal movement. As I hold this book, Searching the Source of the River by Diana Chapman, I am deeply moved. This book uncovers the forgotten women of the British Pentecostal Revival between 1907 and 1914 — women whose prayers, obedience, and faith carried the fire of God into this land.
What strikes me is the timing. On this same date, 3rd September, but in 1844, the Parish of All Saints in Sunderland was established. Almost prophetically, this ground was prepared decades before the outpouring of the Spirit that would shake not only Britain but the nations of the world.
When I read the words ‘Searching the Source of the River’, I cannot help but connect it to what I feel standing here. Revival is not just history; revival is a river that still flows. And we are called to return to the Source — Jesus Christ, the living water.
These forgotten women were hidden vessels, but they birthed something eternal. Likewise, God is raising hidden voices in our time — voices of prayer, consecration, and unshakable faith — who will carry the next wave of revival.
Today, standing on this historic soil, I feel the weight of that legacy. Sunderland is not just a place on the map — it is a prophetic well, a reminder that God uses ordinary people, even the overlooked, to release extraordinary moves of His Spirit.
My prayer is this: just as the river once flowed from here to the nations, let it flow again. Let revival spring forth in our day. Let the forgotten be remembered. And let us be the generation that doesn’t just read revival history but writes the next chapter.
This is Sunderland. This is revival ground. And this is our moment to step into the river.”
