In this video, I explain how to reach the summit of Springer Mountain, the southern terminus of the Appalachian Trail. There are two main ways to reach it: hike the Approach Trail or hike 1 mile southbound from the Springer Mountain Parking Area. No matter what anyone says, the 8.9 mile approach trail is not included in the total mileage of the Appalachian Trail, and you have indeed hiked the entire trail even if you choose to skip the approach trail!
