A political controversy erupted in Parliament after Agha Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, MP from the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, spoke about the ongoing conflict in West Asia during a discussion on the railway budget.
While addressing the Lok Sabha, Mehdi briefly paused the debate to express condolences over the reported killing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, who he claimed died in airstrikes allegedly carried out by United States and Israel.
Mehdi also referred to civilian casualties in Iran, mentioning the deaths of children and students during the conflict, and expressed condolences to the people of Iran and those seeking peace globally.
During his remarks, a member from the ruling National Democratic Alliance reportedly interrupted him, telling him to “go to Iran.” The identity of the MP who made the remark was not clear.
