The Federal Government, in collaboration with the World Bank, has officially flagged off a nationwide skills acquisition programme aimed at equipping Nigerian youths and graduates with employable and entrepreneurial skills.

The initiative, organised by the Federal Ministry of Education under the IDEAS project, was formally launched in Abuja, with stakeholders describing it as a strategic response to Nigeria’s skills gap and rising unemployment.

Speaking at the event, MK Mohammed said the programme cuts across multiple vocational and technical fields designed to address areas where Nigerians have historically lacked capacity.


Mohammed disclosed that although the event marked the official flag-off, many participants had already undergone one month and one week of intensive training.


He further revealed that beneficiaries would receive starter packs from the government at the end of the programme to enable them establish their own businesses.

Also speaking, beauty expert Suzie Agedo described the initiative as timely, especially given the growing number of unemployed youths and graduates across the country.


She added that thousands of trainees are participating nationwide, with 33 training schools simultaneously involved in the flag-off across different skill areas, including beauty therapy and cosmetology and many more.

Other Stakeholders at the event expressed optimism that the programme would significantly reduce unemployment, promote self-reliance and strengthen Nigeria’s human capital development.
