Can You Prevent Allergic Reactions to Lash Extensions with Cyanoacrylate-Free Glue? 🤔 YES or NO? Let’s dive in and find out!
Here’s the deal: A lot of people believe the main reason clients have allergic reactions to eyelash extensions is the glue the lash tech uses. The common thought is that switching to a "sensitive" lash glue should solve the problem. If the reaction continues, the glue must just be low quality, right? Well, not exactly. Lash sensitivities and allergies are a lot more complex than that, and so is the glue we use.
Let’s break it down:
How do we choose the right glue for sensitive clients?
The truth is, we’re kind of taking an educated guess. We can’t always pinpoint whether a client is reacting to cyanoacrylate itself, the high concentration of it, or something else entirely like black carbon. First, though, we need to determine if we (the lash artist) are the source of the problem. We have a whole video on this if you're curious—just let us know and we can share it!
Once we know we're not the issue, it’s time to focus on the glue. Here’s a quick tip: Sensitive glues do contain cyanoacrylate, but in much smaller amounts. They tend to have a slower curing time, so be cautious of any sensitive glues claiming a super fast curing time—something like 0.5 seconds is a red flag in my opinion. 🤨
What kind of glue should you try?
Sensitive lash glues come in both black and clear, and they’re often marketed as “sensitive” formulas. Personally, I recommend trying a clear, sensitive glue like INVISA BOND (linked below). This one has very low cyanoacrylate levels AND it’s free from black carbon—two common irritants. If you can avoid both, you’re in a better position to see if your client has a reaction.

But, if this still doesn’t work… What’s next?
It might be time to try a Cyanoacrylate-Free Glue, like CYANO-FREE. This glue completely removes cyanoacrylate and replaces it with polyacrylate, which works wonders for clients who have a true cyanoacrylate allergy. However, this won’t be the magic fix for everyone. If a client is sensitive to acrylates as a whole, or if they’re reacting to black carbon, this may not be the solution either. 🧐

So, what happens if nothing works?
Let’s be real: We’re not doctors, and we can’t guarantee a perfect outcome every time. But we can try everything possible to help our clients enjoy their lash extensions safely. If after trying all these glues and precautions, your client still has reactions, it might be time for them to switch to DIY lashes. The good news? You can still make money off these clients by offering them DIY lash supplies. You’ll keep a retail customer, and they’ll be sensitivity-free. 🙌
