2005: Kingfisher Airlines is launched in India by billionaire Vijay Mallya, positioning itself as a premium, luxury-focused airline with a "five-star" service. The airline quickly gained popularity due to its bold branding and high-end in-flight services, like personal entertainment systems and upscale seating. By 2010, Kingfisher had become India's largest airline.

However, in just 4 years, it ceased operations. The acquisition of Air Deccan and aggressive fleet expansion financed by heavy debt, coupled with high operating costs, fuel prices, and a competitive market, rapidly brought Kingfisher to its knees. By 2012, the airline was unable to pay its fuel bills, and more than half of its fleet was grounded. Employees went on strike due to months of unpaid salaries, and Kingfisher's flying license was suspended.
