Surah Ar-Raḥmān, the fifty-fifth chapter of the Holy Quran, is a Madani Surah that magnificently highlights Allah’s mercy, blessings, and favors upon humanity and jinn. Known as “The Bride of the Quran,” this Surah repeatedly asks mankind and jinn which of Allah’s favors they will deny. It beautifully describes the balance of creation, divine justice, the rewards of Paradise, and the consequences of denial.

Reason of Revelation (Asbāb an-Nuzūl):

Surah Ar-Raḥmān was revealed to remind both humans and jinn of Allah’s countless blessings and His perfect justice. It addresses those who took divine favors for granted and denied the truth. Through repeated reminders, Allah calls His creation to reflect upon His mercy, the harmony of the universe, and the certainty of accountability. The Surah also emphasizes that mercy precedes punishment and that gratitude leads to eternal reward.

فَبِأَىِّ ءَالَآءِ رَبِّكُمَا تُكَذِّبَانِ

“Which of the favors of your Lord will you deny?”
