According To The Tradition, Christian Pilgrims Are Known To Have Commemorated This Place Since At Least The 4Th Century Ce - Roman-Byzantine Period. Egeria The Pilgrim, Traveling From The West, In The “Itinerary Of The Holy Land”, Mentioned The Place In 381 CE: "Near There On A Mountain Is The Cave To Which The Savior Climbed And Spoke The Beatitudes”. Archaeological Excavations, Supported The Historical Sources, An Exposed In Immediate Vicinity Of The Church Remains Of A Byzantine Period Monastery, Dated To 4Th Century CE.

The Modern Church Was Design By The Architect Antonio Barluzi & Built Between 1936 - 1938 Under Commission Of The Italian Mission Society With Funding From Benito Mussolini. The Architectural Plan Is Octagonal In Neo-Byzantine In Style, The Eight Sides Representing The Eight Beatitudes As The Architect Intended To Reflect Of The Biblical Text In Architecture. The Church Is Built From Local Black Basalt, White Limestone, Imported Italian Marble & Onyx.
