🏰 Delhi Fateh Diwas - A Historic Victory
Delhi Fateh Diwas commemorates the historic conquest of Delhi by the Sikh Army under the leadership of Sardar Baghel Singh in 1783. This momentous event marked a significant chapter in Sikh history when the Khalsa Army hoisted the Nishan Sahib (Sikh flag) at the Red Fort, the seat of Mughal power.
The Sikh forces, known as the Misls, demonstrated exceptional military prowess by capturing Delhi after a series of strategic campaigns. What makes this victory particularly noteworthy was Sardar Baghel Singh's diplomatic acumen - rather than occupying Delhi permanently, he negotiated with the Mughals to permit the construction of seven historic Gurdwaras at sites associated with Sikh Gurus in Delhi. These include Gurdwara Sis Ganj Sahib, Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib, and Gurdwara Bangla Sahib.
The Delhi Fateh (conquest) represents not just a military victory but also showcases the Sikh principles of justice, religi ous freedom, and strategic foresight. Despite having complete control over Delhi, the Sikh Army focused on establishing seats of worship and commemorating sacred sites rather than territorial expansion.
Today, as we gather at the Red Fort - the very site where the Nishan Sahib once flew - we honor the courage, strategic brilliance, and principled leadership of Sardar Baghel Singh and the Sikh Army that changed the course of North Indian history.
