The American Destroyer USS Kidd

USS Kidd (DD-661) was a Fletcher-class destroyer, commissioned in April 1943 and named after Rear Admiral Isaac C. Kidd, who perished aboard USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor. Built for speed, endurance, and versatility, Kidd carried 5 × 5-inch guns, torpedoes, and a powerful anti-aircraft suite—ideal for the vast Pacific battleground.

Service and Operations:
Kidd served with distinction in World War II, escorting carriers, bombarding enemy positions, and defending against relentless air attacks. She earned her battle scars during kamikaze strikes off Okinawa in April 1945, when a suicide plane slammed into her starboard side, causing heavy casualties and damage.
