Join Neil on a classic Lake District walk to Little Mell Fell and Great Mell Fell, two often-overlooked Wainwrights on the edge of the Northern Fells. This December 2025 hike starts under clear winter skies with spectacular views across the Pennine Hills, before the weather slowly turns and the walk ends in true Lakeland fashion, with rain sweeping in across the fells.
Despite their modest height, the Mell Fells deliver big rewards: open grassy slopes, wide horizons, and far-reaching views towards Blencathra, the Eden Valley, and beyond. A perfect short winter walk that showcases how quickly conditions can change in the Lake District.
