Armand Duplantis Clears 6.22m to break world pole vault record

Sweden's Armand Duplantis cleared 6.22m and broke his world pole vault record at the All-Star Perche in Clermont-Ferrand on Saturday (25).

Duplantis opened the contest with a first-time clearance at 5.71m. He then passed the next height at 5.81m and handled 5.91m on his second attempt. The following height of 6.01m, he cleared very confidently.

Finally, it was a moment to endeavor 6.22 meters. On the first and second attempt, Duplantis knocked off the bar, but on his final effort, he achieved the historic mark, adding one centimeter to his own world record.

23-year-old Olympic and world champion has set world record six time. In February 2020, Duplantis broke Renaud Lavillenie's world record of 6.16m, when jumping 6.17m. Just one week later in Glasgow, he bettered the World record to 6.18m.

In March 2022, at the Belgrade Indoor Meeting Duplantis managed 6.19m, and less than two weeks later improved again to 6.20m in the same indoor arena, when taking gold at the World Athletics Indoor Championships.

Mondo Duplantis cleared 6.22m* to add one centimetre to his own world pole vault record at the All Star Perche, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting, in Clermont-Ferrand on Saturday (25).

Duplantis entered the competition at 5.71m and cleared that height on his first attempt. He then passed at 5.81m and managed 5.91m on his second try. He had the competition won when he cleared 6.01m on his first attempt.

Then it was time to try 6.22m. He knocked the bar on his first and second attempts but the third was sublime.

Mondo Duplantis broke the men’s pole vault world record for a sixth time by clearing 6.22 meters at an indoor meet in France on Saturday.

Duplantis, a 23-year-old, Louisiana-raised Swede, has now raised the world record from Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie‘s 6.16 meters in 2014 to 6.22 meters (20 feet and nearly 5 inches), upping it by one centimeter at each of his six record-breaking meets.

He broke it Saturday on his third and final attempt at the height without touching the bar. Lavillenie watched it trackside, sprinted to Duplantis and was the first person to embrace him, bowling him over.

“I wanted to do it for Renaud,” said Duplantis, who looked at Lavillenie as a role model growing up. “This is really special.”

Ukrainian Sergey Bubka broke the outdoor world record 17 times and indoor world record 18 times in the 1980s and ’90s, including by one centimeter on many occasions, taking advantage of bonus money each time he raised it. It has since been changed to one world record combining indoors and outdoors.

Last year, Duplantis raised his world record three times, swept the world indoor and outdoor and Diamond League titles and was named Male Athlete of the Year across the sport.

The incredible Armand Duplantis added one centimetre to his world record with a 6.22m clearance at the All-Star Perche in Clermont-Ferrand, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver meeting, on Saturday (25) evening.

After knocking the bar off twice at 6.22m, Duplantis - in his last indoor competition of the season and with his last competitive vault of the indoor season - soared over the world record height on his third attempt.
