Hills and Crests...
It's not something we always think about but they do increase our risk out and about.
The first issue is the lack of visibility - the golden rule is to be able to stop on your side of the road in the distance you can see to be clear. So when visibility reduces your speed should too.
The second is around the potential risks. Something oncoming may be over the centre line (overtaking or just not paying attention etc) and the combined closing speed doesn't give much reaction time. Being more central to your lane positions you away from that potential risk.
What about something on your side (pedestrian/ cyclist / parked car etc)? Well they're not coming toward you at speed and it's only a slight move in to the centre of the road so you've got time to react to it whilst being safer from the bigger risk 👍
