In-bed vermicomposting is one of the easiest ways to improve soil right where plants need it, in the root zone. I first added in-bed vermicomposting bins to my raised beds in 2020, and I’ve been using them ever since because they’ve made a huge difference in my soil and my garden.
Today I’m at Arizona Worm Farm with Zach to show you a simple, low-maintenance way to compost with worms directly in your raised beds and in-ground garden. We cover the best worms for your climate, the easiest setup, what to feed, how often to feed, and how to use browns to keep the system balanced. Zach also explains how worm cocoons help the system bounce back after stress, plus practical tips for summer heat and winter cold.
You’ll also learn how to harvest and use worm castings, how many bins you actually need, and how to avoid common issues like gnats, ants, and other pests. If you’ve been curious about adding worms to your garden beds, this video walks you through the process step-by-step with a worm expert.
Note: We discuss pest control options. Always follow product labels and use what’s appropriate for your garden.
