This painted rock trail in Atascadero, California now stretches roughly halfway around the lake following the mile long walking path that circles the lake. Our photos are examples of the creative thought that is now one of the longest rock trails in the world. Caretakers maintain the rock trail which begins at the north end of the lake near where Lake View Drive begins at Portola Road. The trail follows the path along Lake View Drive and ends near the south end of the lake where Lake View Drive ends at Santa Rosa Road.
Please drive very slowly on Lake View Drive as you will see walkers, joggers, dogs on leashes, baby joggers etc. The path gets narrow in places so they all stray out into the street on this winding road.
Nearby is Atascadero Lake Park at the north end with lots of green grass and shade. Also Charles Paddock Zoo is located in the park.
