In this video I detail the types of oil painting surfaces on the market today, their differences, and my favorites! Is it worth it to make them or better to purchase premade? After years of making my own surfaces and buying from almost every brand available, I detail individual brands and their pros and cons. Finally, I give a warning which, if heeded, could save you years of frustration.
One linen brand I left unmentioned in this video is Claessens, which can be purchased from the big online art distributors. It comes in multiple weaves and I have enjoyed working on it in the past.
