The Philippines has formally deployed its first BrahMos supersonic cruise missile battery in Western Luzon, marking a historic milestone as the country strengthens its coastal defense against sovereignty challenges in the South China Sea. The battery, operated by the Philippine Marine Corps’ Coastal Defense Regiment, includes mobile launchers and command systems capable of striking targets up to 290 kilometers away, giving Manila the ability to directly threaten Chinese vessels near contested areas such as Scarborough Shoal. This deployment, the first overseas induction of India’s BrahMos system, signals deepening defense ties between New Delhi and Manila while sending a strong psychological message to Beijing, as the missile’s speed and precision make it extremely difficult to intercept.
