Recently, during the “Hind-Di-Chadar – 350th Martyrdom Commemoration of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji” held in Nanded, Maharashtra, the Deputy Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh spoke in detail about the historic contribution of the Banjara community.
During this program, more than 90% of the attendees were from the Banjara community, a fact that was openly acknowledged by the Deputy Chief Minister himself in his speech. He clearly stated that the contribution made by our ancestors for the nation and for Dharma has been extremely significant, even though it has not always received the recognition it truly deserves in mainstream history.
When we talk about Lakhi Shah Banjara Ji, history itself stands as evidence of his courage and sacrifice.
In 1675, when Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji was martyred by the Mughals at Chandni Chowk, Delhi, and his head was separated from his body, fear gripped the entire city. No one dared to come forward.
At that critical moment, Lakhi Shah Banjara Ji showed unmatched bravery. He secretly carried the sacred body of Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji to his own home and set his house on fire so that the Guru’s last rites could be performed with dignity. This sacrifice remains immortal in Indian history.
Not only this, the person who identified Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji as the true Guru was also from the Banjara community — Makhan Shah Lubana Ji.
By proclaiming “Guru Ladho Re,” he revealed the true Guru to the entire Sikh Sangat.
The reality today is that many people were unaware of the immense sacrifices and contributions made by our ancestors. In the present time, it has become our responsibility to take our true history to the wider world.
It is also a historical truth that all the sons of Lakhi Shah Banjara Ji sacrificed their lives for the nation and Dharma. Such great personalities were born in our community, and the world must know about them.
In the coming days, the Hind-Di-Chadar Samagam will also be organized in Mumbai. If I get the opportunity to be present there, I will make every possible effort to showcase and highlight the glorious history of the Banjara community.
