“Broken Colour in Irises”
Part 1 – Wednesday January 29, 2025
History and early development of broken colour hybrids and significant developments. Will include the various ways iris can have random and mixed-up colour - looking at cold, frost, roundup, viruses, and chimera. Also, will discuss how to distinguish viruses from genetic broken colour.
About the Presenter
Chuck Chapman lives in Ospringe, just north of Guelph, Ontario, Canada in an agricultural zone 4. He is the owner of chapmaniris.com and has been hybridizing and selling iris for over 30 years. Some of his iris introductions (ie ‘Forever Blue’ and ‘Blueberry Tart’) are sold around the world. Chuck has had an interest in plant breeding and genetics from an early age. His first hybrid was an apple tree he planted in 1949, and currently still has a clone of it. Chuck has been studying plant breeding and genetics since 1960; and conducting experiments and studying iris biology since then.
