Freightliner Class 66 6K06 0932 Millerhill S.S. to Law Jn passing Holytown Railway Station on the Wishaw Deviation with a Civil Engineering train on 6th April 2025.
The Wishaw Deviation Line, opened on 1 June 1880 by the Caledonian Railway, was constructed to provide a more direct route between Law Junction and Holytown, bypassing the original alignment of the Wishaw and Coltness Railway. This new line enhanced connectivity in the region and led to the establishment of a new station, initially named Wishaw Central, situated closer to the town center. Following the closure of the original station, known as Wishaw South, in 1958, Wishaw Central was renamed simply as Wishaw in 1965.
Holytown railway station is a small railway station serving the town of Holytown in North Lanarkshire, Scotland. It lies on the Argyle Line and the Shotts Line and is managed by ScotRail. Holytown station provides connections to both Glasgow and Edinburgh, along with other local destinations.
The Class 66 is a widely used diesel-electric freight locomotive in the UK and across Europe. Manufactured by Electro-Motive Diesel (EMD) in London, Ontario, Canada, it is one of the most successful and versatile freight locomotives in British railway history.
