So, who are Q Cells and how did they get here?

The company was founded back in 1999 and had started manufacturing solar panels by 2001. By 2005 Q Cell listed on the Frankfurt Stock exchange but unfortunately the next 7 years were less than ideal with Q Cell posting significant losses and ultimately filing for insolvency in 2012.

Not long after filing for insolvency, a Korean based firm Hanwha Group acquired the assets from Q Cell and merged the 2 brands together to create Hanwha Q Cells in late 2012.

Hanwha happens to be a fortune 500 company who have been around since 1952 and currently as of right now, are worth 2.78 trillion South Korean Won which converts to around just over 3 Billion Australian dollars. So you know, there is a really big and established company behind the panels going on your roof.

Hanwha had a solar division under the name of Hanwha SolarOne, so the acquisition made sense.

Fast-forward to today and Q Cells are considered to be one of the best panels on the residential solar market in Australia and the world.

Q Cell Range

Q Cell has an extensive range of solar panels available on the residential solar market in Australia. The Q.Maxx range of panels is considered to be slightly cheaper with a shorter warranty period while the Q.Peak range is their premium solar panel with a longer warranty.

All of the commercial solar panels by Q Cell are Q.Peak and range in output.

What Technology Do They Use?

Q Cell are well known across the industry for their quality control.

A testament to their quality control measures, Q Cell have developed and implemented tracking technology on the solar panels, the TRA.Q™ marking technology.

This allows Q Cell to understand the time and place of the production as well as the material batch.

Once a solar panel is made, sent out to market and installed on a roof, we can appreciate the ability to trace back when and where the panel was made and the material batch is really handy.

Q Cell also runs their own test on each individual solar panel to make sure it’s up to their high standards, this includes 600 cycles with temperature changes from -40 °C to +85 °C within a 15 week period. This is 3 times higher than IEC solar panel tests, which is the international electrotechnical commission.

Q Cell uses Mono-Perc technology across all their solar panels.

Warranty

The product warranty of the Q Cell panels are different depending on the range. The Q.Maxx allows a 12 year product warranty and a 25 year performance warranty.

The Q.Peak range of Q Cells residential solar panels allow an impressive 25 year product warranty and a 25 year performance warranty. That is the best of the best.

Manufacturing Locations

Q Cell manufactures their solar panels in 4 locations across the world. Currently they have facilities in South Korea, China, Malaysia and the USA.

Aesthetics

We can certainly say Q Cell is a good looking panel, as you can tell by the one I am standing next to. Aesthetics is something that we don’t think is considered enough when installing solar. These things are going on your roof for a very long time so it is important that you like the look of them too.
