ASTRA GTC put on an absolutely fantastic re-staging of the 2025 British Masters for the 1000cc Right Hand Sidecars at their superb Swingfield circuit near Folkestone in the Kent countryside, and the large crowd more than got their money's worth. With multi champion Mark Cossar looking for yet another Masters title, with stand in passenger Andi Wilson. Still suffering from the crash he had at the 2024 British Masters, would that give some of the other crews the chance they needed. While 2 former Masters champions in Gareth & Billy Winterburn and Colin Blackbourn/Carl Pugh not having ridden in over a year, would they both be able to blow the cobwebs away during practice and be able to be in the mix?
Local man Terry Saunters with passenger Liam Brown have been the crew to beat all season and went into the meeting as favourites for the title, and they certainly weren't lacking for support in the spectators. Mark's brother Tom was bound to give it a good shot, as well as 2 young crews who have been flying this season, in the shape of Robbie Simmons/Frankie Courtney, and brothers Bradley Reynolds/Conor Measor. Would either of them be able to pull off a surprise victory. With many other crews going so well this season, including Will Offen/Ricky Pay, Will Penfold/Freddie Wood, Dale & Jordan Fish, Clint Blondel/Stephen Russell, and of course the evergreen crews of Steve Smith/Gareth Little and Rob Bradley/Ryan Barker on Rob's trusty for Roger Measor outfit which must be 20+ years old, but is still more than competitive.
The meeting also included the running of the 2025 Champion of Champions for the 500cc Solo's which included the spectacular James Shanes, still of the comeback trail after a bad injury, but he's getting faster with each meeting. James' 2 main rivals had to be Darryl Ritchings who's been a revelation this season, and 17 year old Charlie Wood who has shown great maturity of late and would be a danger to all with his wide riding style.
The 350cc Solo support would be racing for the Stan Luck Trophy, a very popular local rider from the 1960's and 70's who was a star in his own right.
With Cameron Taylor out injured it looked to be Ashton Vale's for the taking. A brilliant 250cc Solo rider, Ashton tries the 350cc class for the first time. Veteran Dave Mears, Barry Powell, and Luke Clifton were amongst Ashton's main competition, but could any of them stop this very talented youngster?
A super event, with some breathtaking racing.
