This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. In this talk, Solomon Smith and Mahamed Hashi turn the distressing subject of food poverty into an engaging talk. The hilarious duo emanate passion for their cause – ‘If you believe in something, it can happen’ – and speak about their desire to break down barriers, connect people and ‘aspire to inspire’.
Solomon Smith and Mahamed Hashi are the co-founders of Brixton Soup Kitchen, a grassroots organisation that provides food and support to the homeless in London. Solomon Smith has been a Youth worker for the past 12 years. In April 2013 he was nominated and won the South London “Our Heroes” award for his work with the Soup Kitchen.
Mahamed Hashi has worked with a number of youth organisations in Lambeth including the local Council, London Probation Service, a number of charities and the local YOS (Youth Offending Service).
About TEDx, x = independently organized event In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)
