Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated the fifth and final road traffic bridge as part of its Sheikh Rashid Road and Al Mina Street intersection development project in Dubai City. This marks the completion of all phases of the Al Shindagha Corridor Development Project in Bur Dubai, significantly enhancing traffic movement across the area.
The newly completed bridge spans 1,210 metres and features three lanes to accommodate 4,800 vehicles per hour. It facilitates seamless traffic flow from Al Mina Street to the intersection of Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street and Sheikh Rashid Road.
This development is part of Phase 4 of the Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project, which encompasses the construction of four bridges with a total length of 3.1 kilometres and a combined capacity of approximately 19,400 vehicles per hour across all lanes.
Completing these infrastructure upgrades has resulted in a dramatic reduction in travel times along the corridor. Previously, a journey from Al Garhoud Bridge to Port Rashid could take up to 80 minutes; now, it takes 12 minutes. Similarly, travel from Jumeirah Street to Infinity Bridge has been reduced to five minutes, and the trip from Infinity Bridge to Al Wasl Road now also takes five minutes.
By 2030, the Authority anticipates that travel time along the corridor will decrease from 104 minutes to 16 minutes. This improvement will benefit approximately one million residents and result in an estimated AED 45 billion economic savings over the next 20 years.
The Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project spans 13 kilometres and includes the development of 15 intersections along Sheikh Rashid Road, Al Mina Street, Al Khaleej Street, and Cairo Street.
The project also includes the construction of five bridges providing direct access to Dubai Islands at the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Abu Bakr Al Siddiq Street. These bridges and ramps span 2,571 metres and have a combined capacity of 20,700 vehicles per hour.
Additionally, the Authority is progressing with the Al Khaleej Street Tunnel project, which extends from the end of the Infinity Bridge ramp in Deira to the intersection of Al Khaleej Street and Cairo Street.
The 1,650-metre tunnel will have three lanes in each direction and is designed to accommodate up to 12,000 vehicles per hour. This tunnel is expected to ensure smooth, free-flowing traffic between the Infinity Bridge and Deira.
