This video demonstrates a way to hard wire a 120 volt pilot/indicator LED to an outside weatherproof double gang box housing a single receptacle. The two gang box is used to gain the extra room for the LED install.
The life of these typical cheap LEDs (5 to 10 dollars) should last 20,000 to 25,000 hours which is only 2.5 to 3 years of service.
