The Building Trades National Medical Screening Program (BTMed) provides free medical screening services to construction workers formerly employed at Department of Energy (DOE) nuclear weapons sites, who may be at risk for occupational illnesses. Since 1996, BTMed has provided tens of thousands of medical screening exams and low-dose CT scans to workers from 35 DOE sites through a large network of health clinics around the country. These screenings are designed to find these work-related conditions at an early and more treatable stage, often before signs and symptoms occur.
This video gives an overview of BTMed, what the work history interview and medical screening exam consists of, features interviews with BTMed staff and participants, how the program contributes to the health and well-being of workers, and more.

BTMed is part of the Department of Energy’s Former Worker Program and is administered independently by CPWR - The Center for Construction Research and Training, the health and safety research center of North America’s Building Trade Unions, with support from state and local Building and Construction Trades Councils.
