उत्तराखंड (Uttarakhand) के चमोली (Chamoli) जिले के जोशीमठ (Joshimath) शहर में जमीन धंसने की घटना से लोगों में डर का माहौल है. जमीन धंसने के कारण जोशीमठ के कई होटलों और घरों में दरारें आ गई हैं. प्राकृतिक आपदाओं के मद्देनजर जोशीमठ बेहद संवेदनशील जगह है. यहां जमीन धंसने की घटना ने सरकार की चिंता भी बढ़ा दी है. स्थानीय लोगों ने इसे लेकर विरोध प्रदर्शन भी किया है.
The Chamoli district administration on Thursday imposed a ban on all construction activities around Joshimath town after thousands of residents blocked the Badrinath national highway-58 for hours amid protests.

In wake of the sinking areas in Joshimath, the Helang bypass works under BRO (Border Roads Organisation) has been stopped immediately. Under sections 33 and 34 of the Disaster Management Act, the directions are given until fresh orders,” a report by Times of India quoted an order signed by Joshimath ADM. Other construction works have been halted around the municipal area of the town.
