By retraining your attention—a skill you can practice during mundane, everyday activities—you can learn to shift focus away from physical symptoms and intrusive health worries. Whether it’s washing dishes, folding laundry, or walking to the mailbox, these common routines become opportunities to practice bringing your mind back to the present moment. Over time, this attention training builds stronger mental focus and reduces the intensity and frequency of symptom-related thoughts. This approach is especially useful because it doesn’t require setting aside extra time—you’re simply learning to direct your awareness while doing what you already do. By anchoring your attention in the present through touch, sight, sound, and smell, you begin to loosen the grip that worry has on your mind and body.
