The Battle of Zenta (11 September 1697) was one of the most decisive battles of the Great Turkish War (1683–1699). Led by Prince Eugene of Savoy, the Habsburg army launched a daring attack against the Ottomans under Sultan Mustafa II as they crossed the River Tisa. The result was catastrophic for the Ottoman Empire: 30,000 dead, massive losses of artillery and treasure, and a humiliating retreat.
This defeat directly led to the Treaty of Karlowitz (1699), which ended Ottoman dominance in Central Europe and marked the rise of the Habsburg Monarchy.
In this video, we explore the background, strategy, battle, and aftermath of Zenta, and how this clash shaped European history.
