Editions Godefroy, 1987

luck has recently smiled on me again, and i found a couple more cassettes from Editions Godefroy, a french private-press label whose releases are hard to find even in France. there's no information about their print runs, but they were apparently quite small. the label itself was more of a complement to a large book publishing house and the busy work of Christian Godefroy himself, who was at the time a major figure in the field of personal growth psychology, self-development, affirmations, and other coaching. Godefroy hired various musicians to record relaxing music, often artists about whom it's virtually impossible to find information today, so there's every reason to believe they were someone's pseudonyms. though Jean Deveza is very real, and apparently still active as a piano teacher, conservatory performer, and session musician. judging by Monsieur Deveza's Facebook, he's into Raëlism, but the page hasn't been updated in almost 10 years, so i wouldn't be surprised if aliens simply took him home. while we are left with tapes of his wonderful music, piano-synthesizer compositions that do what they say they do: relax, calm the mind, and simply allow you to be in peace with yourself. however, my favorite part of the tape is the composition at 14:51, which could be easily a soundtrack to a spiritualist seance. when the theremin-like choir enters, it feels as if a window is about to crash open and a cold winter wind will rush into the room along with a company of ghosts... although they'll most likely just sit down to relax with you afterwards, since the second side of the tape sounds even softer.
