US President Donald Trump took a swipe at London Mayor Sadiq Khan during recent remarks in the Oval Office.
He criticised the UK capital’s leadership and raised concerns about the role of Sharia councils in Britain.
“You have places where in the UK you have a terrible mayor of London, terrible, he's an incompetent guy, but you have Sharia courts,” Trump said.
“You don't want Sharia courts. You have Sharia courts adjudicating law.”
In the United Kingdom, Sharia councils operate as voluntary religious arbitration bodies that handle certain civil matters, primarily within Muslim communities.
They do not replace the British legal system and cannot override UK law.
Khan has previously clashed with Trump over issues including immigration and public safety.
