restoring the hinged windows on our 1979 airstream! (ep.11)

Описание: hey friends!!! it’s super great to see y’all again… especially under better terms this time lol. we are just about 1/3 of the way done with the windows but we are already so exhausted with doing them. this whole process would be much faster if we were just doing the windows themselves rather than removing the whole frame assembly for each of them as well, but we really wanted to make sure everything has its integrity… yaknow? if you’re currently doing the windows yourselves or if you’re about to… i’m sorry. it truly is not very fun but the results are truly so worthwhile. we’ve only got one side done now and the airstream is SO much brighter on the inside already. best of luck to y’all who take this on!

Supplies we used (again, not affiliated with these companies whatsoever):
3/32” butyl tape (grey) (used to give us the extra space we needed and was also used between the frame and the shell where the rivets were installed) https://www.homedepot.com/p/50-ft-But...
3/16” butyl tape (black) (generally, the size that most windows will require) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...
weatherstripping for where the window itself comes back to the sash when closed https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00... (we used the 3/8" / medium gap width)
Desiccant/silica gel beads for between panes https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07...
gaskets for around windows (check what it says for your type of windows though because it varies) https://www.vintagetrailergaskets.com... (unspliced is what we went with for budgeting purposes but if it is within your means to get the spliced ones… DO THAT)
Aside from that, you just need some glass cleaner, a punch, scrapers with LOTS of good blades, adhesive remover, and lots of lint free towels, plus 5/32” diameter solid aluminum rivets of varying lengths which we ordered from McMaster-Carr (We recommend getting lengths from 1/4” to 1/2” or maybe 5/8”… we got 3/4” length for some areas that had a lot more material to go through and it was overkill, but it may differ a little from trailer to trailer) (the 3/8” length was the most used in our case though) (Also, the app is a LOT easier to use than the website but they’re both pretty darn good regardless)
