What is NIPT test?
Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT) is used to screen chromosomal abnormalities of a fetus. This test gives high accuracy and doesn’t harm the fetus because it’s concerned about the sample of maternal blood.
Available for the gestational age at 10 weeks onward. The test works by analyzing the proportion of fetal genetic materials residing in the maternal blood.
The NIPT test is used to detect the risk of down syndrome e.g., an extra copy of the 21st chromosome, other significant chromosomal abnormalities occurred to the 13th or the 18th chromosome or others. It also allows the fetal sex chromosome testing as well. The NIPT test is suitable for mothers at 35 years of age onward due to the high risk of fetal anomalies.
Fetal chromosomal abnormality screening using the maternal blood can detect the risk of down syndrome, fetal aneuploidies or prenatal disorders in order to evaluate the fetal risks. The test takes only 5-14 days to complete
