Officer Involved Shooting - April 20, 2025

Описание: In the late-night hours of Sunday, April 20, 2025, officers with the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office responded to the Sandalwood area following a call about a potentially suicidal individual.

Officers coordinated their response and upon arrival, located the subject inside of a vehicle in the front yard of a residence. Officers attempted dialogue with the subject, but the subject exited the vehicle with a firearm in hand. He pointed the handgun at officers and fired. The officers returned fire, striking the subject. The officers were then able to approach the subject, disarm him, and render aid until medical personnel were on scene. The subject was transported to a local hospital where he is listed in critical, but stable condition. He has been identified as 51-year-old Andreas Albert Wetzel (White/Male).

The officers involved in this incident will be placed on Administrative Leave and have been identified as the following:

JSO's investigation into the circumstances surrounding this officer involved shooting are currently underway, to be followed up by an administrative review. As is protocol, members of the State Attorney's Office responded to the scene as well to conduct their independent investigation into the shooting.
