While 2023 had been great at defying expectations, 2024 had done the opposite. Becoming the least active season since 2011, 2024 broke the record for latest tropical cyclone, it being the first time it took until July for the season to get going. Hone, the only Central Pacific storm of the season, was the first system to form in that basin in nearly 5 years.
Despite many short lived storms, there were a few interesting moments. John became the season's second major before hitting hurricane-stricken Acapulco near peak intensity, before re-emerging into the Pacific and becoming a hurricane again, while Kristy became the first Category 5 hurricane to occur outside of an El Nino since 2010.
