The first step to forming an LLC in Texas is to search your desired LLC name.

When choosing your Texas LLC name, you have a couple options we recommend.
1. Call the State
2. Send an Email
3. Search the Online Database

Search your business every which way you can think of; unfortunately, unlike other states, the online database is not the most “intelligent” and “intuitive”.

When is doubt, call the state at the number provided in this lesson. We recommend having 1-2 alternative names ready in case your desired LLC name is not available for use (this will save you from making multiple phone calls).

1. The abbreviations “LLC” or “L.L.C.” must be used at the end of your name. The abbreviation “LLC” is the most common.

2. Because an LLC is not a Corporation, your desired name can’t use the word “Corporation”, “Incorporated,” or their abbreviations (“Corp.”, “Inc.”)

3. The name of your LLC must also be distinguishable. It needs to be unique when compared to the existing businesses found in the Texas database. Make note of:

• Designators (Inc./Corp./LLC/L.L.C.)
• Grammatical differences (singular/plural, a/an/the, and/&/or, hyphens/slashes/periods/commas)
• Alphanumeric
• Deceptively similar names
