As part of the Stockton & Darlington Railway 200th Anniversary the Hitachi Rail plant at Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, UK, opened it's door to the public for one day only on 4th October 2025.
The plant opened in 2015 and has produced many of the high speed class 800 series trains on todays UK rail network.
Current orders and production includes work for Lumo, Grand Central and East Midland Railways.
Also in attendance at the open day was Locomotion No. 1 replica which starred in last weeks 200th anniversary run from Shildon to Stockton. The steam engine was providing rides along the test track for the visitors to the open day.
The Inspiration Train with class 66 No. 66719 was also visiting the site for visitors to board and learn the history of 200 years of the modern railway as we know it.
