'Law and Order Broke Down in Manipur': Supreme Court summons Manipur DGP for "tardy probe"

Описание: The Supreme Court expressed strong disapproval towards the Manipur government and the police for the "complete breakdown of constitutional machinery" in the strife-torn state from May till July. The court also summoned the Manipur DGP to provide an explanation for the "tardy probe" conducted by the state police in cases of violence. "The state police appears to be incapable of investigating the cases. There is no law and order left (in the state). If law and order machinery cannot protect people, where will they go for protection," stated a bench headed by CJI D Y Chandrachud. The bench, which also included Justice J B Pardiwala and Justice Manoj Misra, was hearing a batch of petitions concerning the violence in Manipur. The apex court criticized the Manipur police for the poor law and order situation in the state, stating that it is "incapable of investigation."
