We are given an inscribed circle inside a regular pentagon with sides of 5 cm. Using just this information, can you find the radius of the circle?
We will start by creating a triangle inside the pentagon by drawing straight lines from the centre out to two adjacent vertices of the pentagon. By adding a radius through the middle of the triangle, we get two congruent right-angled triangles with angles of 36 degrees. A quick bit of trigonometry using tan 36 gives us our final answer.
